Ms. McConaghy's 2nd Grade Class

Today I had the terrific opportunity to visit with a 2nd grade class at Bette Perot Elementary School about my project.  I cannot tell you how moved I was by Ms. McConaghy’s kids.  Two “ambassadors” of the class met me in the office and introduced themselves and told me how excited they were to have me speak to them.  They escorted me to their class where 24 kids greeted me with big eyes and bigger smiles.   We talked about Croatia and why it was important to learn about other cultures.  Who would have thought that second graders could already have an appreciation for such an important topic?  They loved hearing about a country that before this week they had never heard of.  But they also wanted to share stories of themselves and Texas with the Croatian children.   Toward the end of my visit I asked the kids if they were interested in partnering with a Croatian class through Skype or a type of blog.  They started bouncing up and down with excitement and I knew my answer.  When it was time to leave two other “ambassadors” escorted me back to the office all the while telling me how much they enjoyed my visit.  One of the little girls said, “And don’t forget to send us LOTS of pictures!”  They shook my hand and off they went.
If there was ever any doubt about my project or the reason I was doing it…it evaporated today.
Thank you to Ms. McConaghy and her 2nd grade glass.  I am so impressed with all of you.
